To help support “families who have a heart for adoption,” Small Bridges Inc. will present its fourth annual SOS Adventure Trek Saturday.

“The purpose of the Adventure Trek benefit is to raise funds to assist deserving families with adoption-related expenses,” said Denise Hutchinson, president of Small Bridges. “One-hundred percent of the net proceeds will go to a deserving family.

“… While we began with a modest amount of funds, we have grown a bit more each year. We hope that our participants and those who hear about us will help us spread the word that we are here to help these wonderful families who have a heart for adoption.”

On Saturday, registration will be underway for the Adventure Trek from 1 to 1:30 p.m. at Oakland Heights Baptist Church, 1439 Highway 411 in Cartersville.

“Each team will start individually,” Hutchinson said. “They will have two hours from their individual start time to complete their trek. Points will be awarded for each item or task completed according to their instructions. After the judges tally the points, the winners are announced during the award dinner. Event shirts and dinner are included in the $25/person entry fee. Teams must have at least two members.

“For anyone who does not wish to compete in the road rally/treasure hunt, we would invite them to come and check out our silent auction and stay for the award dinner. We will have at least one of our families in attendance.”

She continued, “The Adventure Trek was well received [last year]. It was so exciting to see the teams return with smiles. They were truly excited. There was true competition, but they had fun with it as well. Bobbie Jo Everidge, a past participant, says it is hard to explain exactly how much fun it is. Alex Bonds and his family have won the top prize for the last two years. They will be back to defend their title.”

According to the organization’s promotional materials, Small Bridges is “dedicated to the creation of financial assistance necessary to the placement of children into loving Christian homes. We will provide that small bridge between those who wish to adopt and those wishing to help financially.

“We are dedicated to helping prospective adoptive parents overcome the financial barriers associated with adoption. We accomplish this by awarding financial grants, matching grants and/or interest free loans to qualified families already in the process of adopting. The size of the grant awarded is determined by several factors, the most important being their faithfulness to God and financial need.”
